Construction Progress – May 15, 2020
As things continue to progress on schedule with the Camp Creek re-grassing project, we wanted to update our Members on where we are in the process. The remaining turf was sprayed out and removed shortly after the Club closed on March 16. After that, grading and shaping was done to prepare the ground for sod and sprigs. On May 5, the new sod installation started. The rest of the sod and sprigging process will continue over the next couple of months. We still look to have a target re-opening date in the early Fall of 2020. As everything remains on schedule, the decision was made to change the grass type being used for the renovation.
Originally the plan was to use Northbridge Bermuda-grass, but we have changed to Platinum Palspalum. After completing our water quality tests and doing further research with other golf course agronomic professionals, we felt that the Platinum Palspalum will provide the best possible playing surface while delivering fantastic aesthetics. Palspalum has no grain and holds a dark green color better than most grasses on the market. Platinum Palspalum also has the finest leaf blade of all the Palspalum strains and can be closely mown to heights below 1/8’’.
Clubs that have recently installed Platinum Palspalum include:
- Sea Island Resort – Plantation Golf Club
- Medalist Club
- PGA National
- Wyndemere Country Club
- Kiawah Island – Cougar Point Golf Club
- Lake Nona Country Club
- Dye Preserve Golf Club
- Belfair Plantation
- As well as many other high-end facilities
We are excited about the progress of the renovation and cannot wait to see the finished product as it will be truly spectacular!
